Reliance Industries Ltd.’s (RIL) was in focus after the news of a partnership between the firm and Meta, which is the owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
According to the pact, Reliance Industries will construct an AI-powered data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The data center will have a capacity of 168 megawatts and will be rented out by Meta to meet their requirements for artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure. The firm would also have the provision to upscale its capacity in the future.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, this project demonstrates the firm’s significant commitment to the Indian market, which is among the fastest-growing and largest ones for the company. This infrastructure will assist Meta in providing its products and developing its AI technologies.
Reliance believes that this is the first ‘built-to-suit’ data center project by Meta in India. Reliance sees the project playing a vital role in making India a central player in the global AI sector.
Under the collaboration, Reliance would offer end-to-end services to Meta. These include the design and construction of the center, management of utilities, provision of renewable power, network connectivity, and operation. According to Reliance, the deal allows it to become a one-stop shop for large scale AI infrastructure projects in India.
There are many advantages of the Jamnagar location. First, it provides renewable energy. Second, there is enough water supply. Third, there is good connectivity due to the fiber optic network of Jio. Moreover, the location of the data center is close to the main submarine cable landing facilities in India’s western coast. In addition, the facility will use renewable energy and desalinated seawater for cooling.
According to Reliance Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, the agreement is a milestone in India’s digital infrastructure space. It shows that India is ready to play an active role in the world’s AI revolution.
He further went on to mention that Reliance intends to develop first-rate digital infrastructure that will enable the future generation of artificial intelligence advancements. He stated that Jamnagar was poised to become a key location for AI computing, enabling not only the Indian digital economy but also fulfilling global requirements.
