India’s second largest IT services firm, Infosys, has stated that its CEO and MD, Salil Parekh, would be retiring from his position effective April 1, 2027. The firm has appointed Ashiss Kumar Dash as the CEO Designate, and he will take charge after Parekh steps down after completing his tenure.

Salil Parekh started his journey at Infosys in January 2018 and has been at the helm of affairs at Infosys for almost nine years now. Parekh has been the longest serving non-founder CEO in Infosys’ history. Under his leadership, Infosys has seen steady growth and has made its presence felt in digital technologies, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.

The chairman of Infosys, Nandan Nilekani, stated that it gives him immense pleasure to appoint Ashiss Kumar Dash as the CEO of Infosys going forward. He mentioned that the tech industry is seeing tremendous changes and needs a leader who can innovate without compromising the principles and ethics of Infosys.

With Parekh’s leadership, Infosys was able to generate an annual revenue in excess of $20 billion and landed some major technology contracts across the globe. Infosys has emerged as one of the foremost providers of services in digital transformation, cloud computing, cybersecurity, engineering services, and AI-driven solutions. Post-pandemic of COVID-19, there was an increasing need for digital technology and Infosys took advantage of that and was able to gain due to this fact because businesses globally started spending more on IT.

In the recent past, Parekh also concentrated on strengthening the company’s AI capacity by investing in AI platforms, developing solutions of AI for businesses, and training of AI skills of its employees.

This leadership transition is taking place against the backdrop of some significant changes in the global IT services industry with regard to slower technology spending, price pressures, and advancements in AI.

Salil Parekh will continue to run Infosys till March 31, 2027 and will closely cooperate with Ashiss Kumar Dash to facilitate a seamless transition of leadership. Infosys is confident that the selection of an experienced internal leader would ensure stability and further growth for the company.

The move signifies the start of a new era in Infosys’ life. As Parekh leaves the company in a good shape, Dash will have to navigate a complex AI era in the coming years.
