Indian IT services major, Wipro said it would acquire Harman Digital Transformation Services (DTS), the software services and engineering arm of the Connecticut-based audio product manufacturer, in its bid to strengthen its engineering, research, and development (ER&D) services.
The company would acquire Harman DTS, which makes JBL speakers, for about $375 million, the company said. The acquisition is likely to be completed by December this year.
The acquisition expands Wipro’s ER&D service offerings and capabilities by enhancing its AI-powered digital engineering and device engineering,” said the company in a press release.
Harman DTS is a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, which employs around 5,600 people across 14 countries. It operates in ER&D and IT services, including data analytics, cloud and AI. Its services span across verticals like industrial, consumer, hi-tech, healthcare, and life sciences among others.
Harman DTS posted $314.5 million revenue last year, up 2% on year-on-year basis. More than four-fifths of its revenue of Harman DTS came from services with rest coming from products business.

Together, we’ll accelerate digital innovation, reduce time-to-market, and sharpen competitive advantage,” said Srinivas Pallia, CEO of Wipro said.
About 5,600 of Harman’s staff, including its leadership in key geographies, will join Wipro post this transaction. They will part of Wipro’s Engineering Global Business Line.
