Pune, 17 April 2025

Vodafone customers upgrading to the new Google Pixel 9a smartphone from a previous Pixel model will enjoy a seamless experience thanks to a new eSIM Transfer feature enabled in Android.

From 14 April 2025, eSIM Transfer is available for Vodafone customers choosing the Pixel 9a in Germany, with other Vodafone European markets to follow.

eSIM Transfer makes it quicker and easier for Vodafone customers to migrate their existing eSIM or physical SIM profile to their new Pixel 9a smartphone via Wi-Fi.

With a single click, the Pixel 9a setup process can detect another nearby Pixel smartphone and initiate the transfer process instantly.

With no QR code or log-in process needed, eSIM Transfer avoids any need to download or create a new eSIM profile from scratch. The SIM or eSIM profile on a previous device is automatically deactivated.

Vodafone is the first operator to launch a Google smartphone with the new eSIM Transfer feature with eSIM profile reuse, building on Vodafone’s wider cooperation with Google.

Wolfgang Fettes, Head of Consumer Products & Services at Vodafone Germany said: “Vodafone’s partnership with Google means that our customers can experience the seamless eSIM Transfer feature with eSIM profile reuse when they upgrade to the Pixel 9a smartphone. The service is available today in Germany and will be introduced in other European markets in the coming months.”

eSIM Transfer has been jointly developed by Vodafone and Google based on the GSMA TS43 industry standard that allows Vodafone eSIMs to be migrated to the new device.

Pixel 9a customers will also have the alternative option to transfer the eSIM or physical SIM later in the device settings after completing the Pixel setup process. In the Pixel 9a device settings, customers can also convert their existing physical SIM to eSIM with no need to request a SIM swap from Vodafone.
