Alphabet Inc. is now refreshing Google TV with new AI features through Gemini to Google Assistant. This is a way through which users can more easily manage their TVs through voice commands, thus enhancing the ways they search for content.
Google unveiled the new update at CES technology conference. With Gemini, users will have natural conversations with their TV. For instance, they won’t have to say “Hey Google” each time they want to make a command. They can also ask the TV to find videos from a recent trip saved in Google Photos.
This update will arrive later this year and will function on third-party TVs from companies like Sony, Hisense, and TCL. Google first debuted these features last year on the company’s streaming device. Google TV is another competitor to those TV systems being offered by Samsung, Amazon, and Roku.
The other feature that Google showed is the new “always-on” for some TVs. These TVs use sensors to identify whether a person is nearby. Upon detecting that, it will display information that would be useful, like news, weather, or any updates. The first brand that would offer this is TCL, by late 2025, while Hisense is expected to be available in 2026.
