The Income Tax Department of India has introduced PAN 2.0 for enhancing the convenience and security.
Under the project, PAN cards will have QR codes. Some experts are of the opinion that this will reduce the risk of fraud using PAN card. Under the PAN 2.0 initiative, the entire process of PAN application has now been digitized. This enables provision of seamless PAN authentication and validation services to various organisations.
Higher Security:
As the new PAN card comes with a QR code, it will be difficult for fraudsters to duplicate or tamper with personal information of the holder. The QR code contains encrypted personal data that can only be read by authorized personnel.
Hard to duplicate:
The new PAN card with QR code will be difficult to duplicate because it is hard to replicate a QR code.
Do you need it?
- The income tax department has said that the existing PAN card holders are not compulsorily required to apply for a new PAN under the PAN 2.0 project.
- However, if any corrections or updates are needed to existing PAN details, then the taxpayers should apply for PAN 2.0.
- Visit the NSDL e-PAN Portal to apply for the new PAN.
