After moving Ola Group’s workload from Microsoft Azure in June, the taxi aggregator & EV maker has now fully transitioned from Google Maps to its in-house Ola Maps.
In a social media post on ‘X’ platform, the company’s founder & CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal said it has saved Rs 100 crore annually by moving to Ola Maps.
“After Azure exit last month, we’ve now fully exited Google Maps. We used to spend ₹100 cr a year but we’ve made that 0 this month by moving completely to our in house Ola maps! Check your Ola app and update if needed,” he said in a ‘X’ post.
“Also, Ola maps API is available on @Krutrim cloud! Many more features coming soon – street view, NERFs, indoor images, 3D maps, drone maps etc!,” he added.
Krutrim, operating within the Ola Group, focuses on developing AI computing infrastructure. It recently launched the Krutrim Cloud, offering advanced GPU resources for tasks like AI training and 3D rendering. Established in December 2023, Krutrim became a unicorn with a $50 million funding round, reaching a valuation of $1 billion.
In 2021, Ola had acquired GeoSpoc, a Pune-based provider of geospatial services. Currently, its ride-hailing app is using the Ola Maps. The company also has plans to roll out Ola Maps to its electric two-wheelers as part of a software update.
In May this year, Ola group of companies finished transitioning all its workload to its in-house artificial intelligence (AI) firm Krutrim.
“As committed, Azure spend is now 0. All workloads on Krutrim Cloud. Within a week. Will help others also exit and move to our own Indian stack. More than 2,500 devs have signed up! Will be working with everyone to get onto our cloud services over the coming weeks. Around 2,500 developers had signed up to try Krutrim Cloud,” Aggarwal has said, on the social media platform X.
