Generative AI has transformed the frontiers of artificial intelligence (AI). GenAI tools including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini and many others are bringing in significant changes across sectors. India, which is considered as the talent hub of the world, is also witnessing a slew of such tools getting developed by several startups.
These players are developing India-specific GenAI tools, taking into account the multilingual and multicultural diversities.
In this article, we feature some of the homegrown GenAI tools along with their functions and potential impact.
Krutrim AI: Krutrim, an AI startup led by serial entrepreneur Bhavish Aggarwal of Ola Group, has achieved unicorn status by securing $50 million in funding, making it India’s first AI startup to reach a billion-dollar valuation. The company, which means “artificial” in Sanskrit, aims to revolutionize the AI ecosystem by developing data centers and offering servers and supercomputers at the world’s lowest prices. Krutrim AI, envisioned as a personalized assistant, seeks to simplify both personal and professional tasks while embracing Indian values. Additionally, it has opened its cloud to entrepreneurs and developers, empowering businesses to create products independently of Western cloud solutions.
Haptik AI: Jio Haptik is a Reliance Jio Platform’s AI company. Haptik, which is a key player in the Jio, Google, and Facebook ecosystem, strategically partners with WhatsApp and MyGov India to ensure reliable scalability and performance for brands. With a dedicated customer success manager, Haptik enhances the Conversational AI strategy for enterprises. It has recently launched Contakt, a GenAI-powered customer experience suite driven by large language models (LLMs). According to the company, Contakt provides customers with self-service options and automates routine tasks, enhancing agent productivity through co-pilot offerings.
Senseforth AI: Senseforth.ai has been at the forefront of developing future-ready AI technology since launching its first conversational AI platform in 2017. The company provides AI-powered chatbots that automate conversations between individuals and organizations, revolutionizing how products and services are accessed and utilized in today’s multi-experience landscape.
Niki AI: Niki, an AI company based in Bangalore, Karnataka, was founded in May 2015 by IIT Kharagpur graduates Sachin Jaiswal, Keshav Prawasi, Shishir Modi, and Nitin Babel. Specializing in chatbot technology, Niki.ai utilizes machine learning and NLP to automate tasks such as online ordering and payments. With funding from notable investors like Ratan Tata and Unilazer Ventures, Niki.ai’s AI chatbot facilitates end-to-end bookings for Uber and Ola cabs, along with services like bill payments, recharges, home services, and food ordering. It provides users with an intelligent personal assistant that operates via a chat-based interface, allowing for natural language interaction.
Hanooman AI: It is a collaboration between Indian company SML and Abu Dhabi-based company 3AI. Hanooman AI is a multilingual AI chatbot supporting 98 languages, including 12 Indian languages. With features like multimodal functions, speech-to-text capability, and customization for sectors like healthcare and education, it aims to revolutionize various industries. Developed with contributions from seven IITs and supported by partnerships with tech giants like HP and NASSCOM, as well as the Telangana government and 3,000 colleges, Hanooman AI is set to reach 200 million users in its first year of launch. The company aims to bring transformative changes in healthcare and education through its AI applications.
