In a recent interview on the B2g Pod, the CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, commended Elon Musk and his AI company, xAI. According to him, what Musk and xAI have achieved is remarkable. He said that Musk has a unique understanding of engineering and systems and can handle large projects and resources in an extraordinary way.
Huang specifically praised the supercomputer called Colossus that was developed by xAI. This supercomputer contains 100,000 Nvidia GPUs and was completed in only 122 days. Huang pointed out that while Musk estimated initially that it would take 19 days to build, the whole project was completed in much less time. This is a huge testament to the efficiency of the teams working on the project.
With a gigantic GPU cluster, Colossus has gained the reputation of being the world’s fastest supercomputer. “What the engineering, networking, infrastructure, and software teams at xAI did here is truly extraordinary,” he said. Usually, he said, it would take three years for planning, and another year to set up and test the whole setup. It was important that Colossus completed its task so fast.
This comes after Nvidia saw a near 14% jump in its stocks this month. Investor confidence improved after clarification by Nvidia on the issue of product delay problems and long-term prospects. It ranked as one of the best-performing stocks in the S&P 500 Index so far this year, in terms of stock performance.
Huang also referenced Nvidia’s new Blackwell chip, which is now in full production. He is bullish on the interest in this chip, describing interest in it as “insane.” That follows a bit of an earlier delay in its development, which had previously dented the price of Nvidia’s stock. These concerns, however, seem to have been resolved and shares in the company have rebounded.
Overall, Jensen Huang’s comments show not only what xAI and its supercomputer Colossus have achieved but also the bright perspective of Nvidia’s future.
