Oracle has confirmed that construction of its AI data center campus in Saline Township, Michigan. Developed with partners Related Digital and DTE Energy, the facility will be operated by Oracle and will support OpenAI with advanced AI infrastructure.
Oracle said the campus will use closed-loop, non-evaporative liquid cooling, keeping annual water use similar to that of a standard office building. On energy, the company stated that local residents will not face higher electricity costs, as Oracle will pay all power expenses, fund new transmission lines and build an onsite substation. The long-term power agreement with DTE Energy will not impact existing customer rates and complies with state law which is approved by the Michigan Public Service Commission.
Oracle is expected to contribute to DTE’s fixed costs, with estimates suggesting a benefit of about $300 million annually by 2029–2030 and helping keep energy costs more affordable for consumers.
Once the project is operational, expected to create around 2,500 union construction jobs and about 450 on-site jobs and 1,500 more across Washtenaw County. The construction is scheduled to begin in Q1 2026.
Oracle will also invest in the local community, including $8 million annually for schools, at least $1.6 million per year in direct tax revenue for Saline Township, and over $14 million in community benefits for emergency services, infrastructure and public spaces. The campus will be built on 250 of 575 acres, with the remaining land preserved as open space, farmland, wetlands, and woodlands.
The Michigan data center is positioned as part of Oracle’s broader effort to strengthen U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence while delivering long-term economic benefits to the local community.
