India is preparing to enhance its civil defense and security mechanisms rapidly in response to escalating tensions with Pakistan. The government is keen to ensure the nation is secure from attacks, including cyberattacks. Official orders regarding these developments were supposed to be dispatched on Thursday night.
Over 300 such significant locations such as power plants, airports, and major roads are now going to be provided with additional security. These locations were already designated as “critical” by the government months back due to the fact that they are extremely crucial for the daily functioning of the country.
This big step was initiated after Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting on Thursday. The meeting was regarding how prepared the country is to meet any national security challenge. It also discussed how various ministries and departments must cooperate in times of emergencies.
As a part of the plan, India will mobilize large numbers of civil defense organizations. These range from the Bharat Scouts & Guides to National Cadet Corps (NCC) and over one lakh trained civilian volunteers such as ‘Aapda Mitras’ and Home Guards. They will be deployed in every state and district to assist in emergency response and relief during disasters.
The government also intends to reach out to ex-servicemen and employ trained personnel from various disaster response units. State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are scanning whether any state requires assistance or additional emergency equipment.
The gathering also concentrated on halting the dissemination of false news and erroneous information. This is so because misinformation can create panic in the event of an emergency. The Prime Minister directed all the ministries and departments to function harmoniously and remain connected in order to face any situation adequately.
All the ministries have been instructed to verify their systems and ensure they are performing adequately. They have to maintain being prepared, being able to react promptly, and having good strong communication while remaining secure.
