Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has selected local contract manufacturer, Dixon Technologies to produce its Google Pixel 8 smartphones in India, the Economic Times reported citing sources.
The trial production phase for the super-premium phone has already commenced and the first batch of these made-in-India devices is likely to be available by September, the report said.
Google intends to utilise Indian production to meet the demands of the domestic market and potentially for exports as well, the report added.
Earlier in his address at the Google for India event in October, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai had said that Google would be keen to manufacture in India as part of its commitment to supporting India’s digital growth and the Make in India initiative.
RazorPay to shift domicile to India
Fintech unicorn Razorpay has initiated the process to bring its US-based parent entity back to India, reports said. The Y Combinator-backed startup, domiciled in the US, is shifting base as it plans to raise funds from public markets.
The $7.5 billion digital payments firm has started a restructuring exercise in which many of its India units are being bought under a single local-holding company, reports suggested.
Earlier, online stockbroker Groww completed its domicile shift to India. Many startups, registered in foreign locations are shifting their headquarters to India for tax gains apart from their plans to raise money from the Indian market.
