Google on Tuesday said it has introduced its latest AI assistant, the Gemini app, in the Indian market. The launch includes both the standard Gemini app and Gemini Advanced, which offers users access to Google’s advanced AI models.
According to the search engine giant, these apps are now available in nine Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
“Exciting news! Today, we’re launching the Gemini mobile app in India, available in English and nine Indian languages. We’re also adding these local languages to Gemini Advanced, plus other new features, and launching Gemini in Google Messages in English,” posted Sundar Pichai, Chief Executive, Google on social media platform ‘X’.
Gemini Advanced now includes improved data analysis tools and file upload capabilities. A user can interact with Gemini via Google Messages in English, using text, voice, or images for assistance. For example, taking a photo of a flat tire allows Gemini to provide instructions on how to replace it. iOS users will soon access Gemini through the Google app in the coming weeks.
“Gemini has had an exciting first year in India. We’ve been thrilled to see how people across the country are using it to collaborate with AI in diverse ways — be it for schoolwork, coding, or creative exploration. From students to developers and many other curious minds, people in India are embracing Gemini’s capabilities to enhance their productivity, learning, and creativity in everyday life,” said Amar Subramanya, Vice President of Engineering at Gemini Experiences in a blog post.
How to access the newly introduced Gemini app in India?
Any user, who wants to access Gemini on Android, he/she will need to download the new Gemini app or opt-in via Google Assistant. After selecting Gemini as their default assistant on Android, users will be able to access the chatbot with a corner swipe, or even by pressing the power button on some devices. Meanwhile, iOS users will be able to access Gemini directly from the Google app in the coming weeks, according to the company.
