Kochi, 5 June 2026

In March 2026, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) kept the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) deposit interest rate at 8.25% for the financial year 2025-26. This announcement gave millions of subscribers a sigh of relief, but some started questioning why the interest wasn’t already in their accounts.

The reason for the lag? Well, a bunch of official procedures need to wrap up first. To start, the EPFO’s Central Board of Trustees decides the rate. Then, the government has to say “okay” and make it official. Only after all that paperwork clears does EPFO update member accounts and credit the interest. Since this involves tons of processes and checking for millions of accounts, interest isn’t credited right away.

Now, historically, it takes anywhere from June to September for the interest to pop up in members’ accounts. This time frame varies based on how quickly the government approves things and how efficiently EPFO wraps up its end.

But here’s the good part – members don’t miss out! If the interest comes through later, you still get all of it. So no sweat if it takes a bit longer to appear; it will show up eventually.
