OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently posted that ChatGPT has witnessed a tremendous growth in the number of individuals using it on a daily basis. In his opinion, the daily active users have increased more than fourfold within the last year. That implies that significantly more individuals are using ChatGPT on a daily basis this year compared to the previous year. He made this revelation on X, which is the new name of Twitter.
While Altman did not provide the specific number of users, he explained that the amount of messages sent daily through ChatGPT has increased even higher than the number of users. This indicates that not only are more individuals using the chatbot, but they are also using it more frequently.
Altman also praised the work of OpenAI’s engineering team. He said that they have made the system much more reliable and faster. These improvements have helped people have a better experience when using ChatGPT. He said that the team is doing a great job, especially because they are working on such a large scale with so many users around the world.
One of the primary causes of the recent surge in users is the launch of a new iteration of ChatGPT named GPT-4o. It comes equipped with strong new capabilities such as image creation, which was extremely popular. Indeed, following the launch, a lot of users began making images resembling Studio Ghibli, one of Japan’s most renowned animation studios. It became a viral trend on the internet and attracted a huge number of new users.

Sam Altman described it as one of the wildest viral experiences he’d ever witnessed. It indicates how quickly individuals are embracing new AI tools when compelling features are added.
