Bengaluru-based Chartered Accountant (CA) has a humorous take on Narayan Murthy’s advice to youngsters on 70 hours workweek.
On the social media platform ‘X’, Basu (@Basappamv) said that he and his fellow CAs had taken Murthy’s advice seriously and have started working for 70 hours per week. But still, they are facing problems in filing tax returns.
Taking a dig at Infosys’ Founder, whose company is managing the Income Tax portal of India, Basu said that Murthy should advise his project managers to work for 1 hour per week to run the Income Tax portal smoothly.
As the deadline for income tax filing approaches, the portal has been facing many glitches at the time of filing the return.
“Narayana Murthy Saar, on your advice we, tax professionals started to work more than 70 Hours per week. Ask your Infosys team to work at least one hour per week to smoothly run the Income tax portal. Thanks in Advance,” Basu wrote on ‘X’, which went viral after posting.
NR Narayana Murthy, who co-founded Infosys, had stepped down as Chairman of the information technology major in 2011 after 30 years.
In October last year, Murthy had stormed a debate for suggesting that young Indians should extend their work hours to at least 70 per week to be productive.
“Somehow our youth has the habit of taking not-so-desirable habits from the West, and then… not helping the country. India’s work productivity is one of the lowest in the world. Unless we improve our work productivity, unless we reduce corruption in the government at some level, because we have been reading I don’t know the truth of it, unless we reduce the delays in our bureaucracy in taking this decision, we will not be able to compete with those countries that have made tremendous progress. So therefore, my request is that our youngsters must say, this is my country, I’d like to work 70 hours a week,” Murthy had said.
Recently, Ola Group’s CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal had endorsed Murthy’s idea of working for 70-hours per week.
Reportedly, many tax professionals are facing problems in filing tax returns owing to glitches in the Income Tax portal with the nearing of the deadline- July 31, 2024. Previously, the IT major had faced public ire owing to glitches in the platform.
