Cloud hyperscaler, AWS (Amazon Web Services) has introduced more machine learning and generative AI features that can be accessed by general users than its peers in the industry.
During its customary analyst call after announcement of second quarter earnings, the company said that it would keep integrating new features in the coming quarters.
“During the past 18 months, AWS has launched more than twice as many machine learning and generative AI features into general availability than all of the other major cloud providers combined. This team is cooking, but we’re not close to being done adding capabilities for our customers’ interface,” Andrew R. Jassy, President and Chief Executive Officer has said.
According to Amazon’s Q2 earnings report, revenue from AWS was at $26.3 billion, an increase of 18.8% year over year, excluding the impact of foreign exchange.
“AWS now is an annualized revenue run rate of more than $105 billion. During the second quarter, we saw continued growth across both generative AI and non-generative AI workloads. We saw companies turn their attention to newer initiatives, bring more workloads to the cloud, restart or accelerate existing migrations from on-premises to the cloud, and tap into the power of generative AI,” Brian T. Olsavsky, Senior Vice President, & Chief Financial Officer of Amazon has said.
AWS operating income was $9.3 billion, an increase of $4 billion year over year, the company has said.
The company mentioned that growth opportunities for AWS remained bright as more on-premises businesses would migrate to cloud in the future.
“As I mentioned, it’s a $105 billion revenue run rate business, about 90% of the global IT spend is still on-premises. And if you believe that equation is going to flip, which I do, there’s a lot of growth ahead of us in AWS as the leader in all those dimensions…. But I also think that generative AI itself and AI as a whole, it’s going to be really large,” Jassey has said.
