Amazon has established a new group focused on building “agentic artificial intelligence,” which will assist users and customers in automating more of their lives, based on an internal email obtained by Reuters. The new group will be headed by Swami Sivasubramanian, an AWS executive. The email, which was sent by AWS CEO Matt Garman, highlighted that “agentic AI” had the potential to be a significant source of revenue for AWS. Sivasubramanian, who once held the position of vice president of AI and data, will now report to Garman.
Agentic AI is meant to automate tasks for consumers without requiring them to trigger the system. Amazon emphasized some of these capabilities last week when it announced a new update for its Alexa voice service, available to select customers later this month.
“We have the opportunity to enable our customers to innovate more quickly and unlock more opportunities. I think AI agents are critical to this next era of innovation,” Garman wrote in the email. An Amazon spokesman did not have an immediate response to requests for comment.
Moreover, AWS senior vice president Peter DeSantis also revealed some reorganizations inside AWS in an internal message. These involve relocating AI teams Bedrock and SageMaker, and hardware engineering, into the computer organization. Another group has also been established to merge customer experience and commerce. DeSantis mentioned that these reorganizations will facilitate speeding up innovation. Amazon shares declined marginally by less than 1% at $204.81.
