Amazon announced its entry into the burgeoning quick commerce service market in India, which is currently dominated by Zomato’s Blinkit, Swiggy’s Instamart, Zepto, Flipkart Minutes, and BigBasket.

Amazon India’s Country Manager, Samir Kumar announced the entry at the Amazon’s Smbhav 2024 summit. According to Kumar, Amazon’s strategy in India is “Selection, Value, and Convenience.” The idea is to offer customers the largest selection of products at the fastest speeds and the best value. The new quick commerce service will enable customers to receive everyday essentials in 15 minutes or less.

This is also Amazon’s entry into the quick commerce sector; it is, therefore, the last major e-commerce company to enter this fast-paced market. The pilot will begin in Bengaluru and then spread to other cities.

Quick commerce, or ultra-fast delivery, has gained huge popularity in India. Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart are companies that have deliveries as fast as 10 minutes, delivering groceries, electronics, and other goods. This market has grown rapidly. In 2020, the industry was worth only $100 million, but it is expected to reach $6 billion in sales this year. However, the competition is tough.

As more Indian consumers transition from traditional one- or two-day deliveries to faster same-day services, Amazon’s new quick commerce service will need to keep up with this increasing demand and fierce competition in the sector.
