Zoomcar, an auto-sharing firm in Bengaluru, reported that it has experienced a serious data breach which compromised the personal details of at least 8.4 million users. The firm revealed this news to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on June 13, 2025. Through the report, hackers had gained access to significant customer data including names, telephone numbers, automobile registration numbers, residential addresses, and email addresses. This implies a huge quantity of personal and sensitive information was stolen in the cyberattack.

The initial indication of the issue was seen on June 9, when a few of Zoomcar employees were receiving unusual notifications from an unknown person saying they had accessed company information. This notification prompted Zoomcar to check on the issue. Once the data breach was found, the company acted quite promptly to react. They engaged their incident response plan for such a scenario and began to enhance security systems. This involved integrating more robust defense to their cloud storage and internal network, boosting the surveillance of their systems, and verifying who has access to critical information.

Zoomcar also hired external cybersecurity professionals to investigate. They have reported to the appropriate authorities, such as the police and regulating agencies, and are cooperating with them to get to the root of the matter. Up to now, the company has indicated that the cyberattack has not resulted in any significant disruption to their operations or day-to-day activities. That said, they continue to analyze cautiously how significant the impact may be. This covers potential legal problems, hurt to their image, cost in money, and the funds they will require to remedy the situation.

For the time being, Zoomcar is cautioning its users to be cautious. If you are a client, you should be careful about suspect emails, calls, or messages. Avoid clicking on suspicious links and sharing your personal information without verifying. If you find anything odd, it’s wise to report it to Zoomcar.

This episode is a powerful reminder that data on the internet is not always secure, and corporations need to do more to safeguard it. Zoomcar has assured that it will take the required measures to rectify the issue and avoid such problems in the future.
