UltraTech Cement is now planning to move into a new segment of business. As per a news from the Aditya Birla Group on Thursday, September 3, the group will invest Rs 1,800 crores to venture into the wires and cables business.
Ultravolt will be the name of the new business, which will function under the UltraTech Cement business. UltraTech says Ultravolt will become the second-largest wires player in India based on production capacity.
UltraTech is looking at making Ultravolt a strong brand at the national level. The company plans to position itself among the top two players in the wires and cables industry in the next five years.
The company plans to roll out Ultravolt pan India instead of entering one region after another. The plan is to cover over 1 lakh retailers and distribute its products through over 5,000 UltraTech Building Solutions outlets.
At the start, the business plans to cover over 500 districts and 6,000 pin codes across the nation.
As per the Director of Ultravolt, Dilip Gaur, the company has a good foundation for business expansion in the country. This involves having a new manufacturing plant, over 20 warehouses, and distribution system.
UltraTech has a strong network among home builders, contractors, real estate developers, and engineering firms. These would help Ultravolt reach out to consumers and expand its business.
The venture in wires and cables business would help UltraTech penetrate further into the construction industry in India. Currently, UltraTech is operating in areas of grey cement, ready-mix concrete, building materials, and white cement.
This venture would also enable the firm to take advantage of the increase in India’s demand for housing facilities, infrastructure development, energy, and digitalization.
Ultravolt has its primary manufacturing plant based in Jhagadia in Bharuch District, Gujarat. The company feels that being in Gujarat, its products would be distributed to various regions of India conveniently.
Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group, said that wiring and cables would be gaining increasing significance in future as the country develops further. Wires and cables are very closely associated with urbanization, electrification, and digitization.
Ultravolt is also launching a unique program for electricians, covering areas such as product knowledge, safety, and installation of products. Over 1,600 electricians have already been enrolled for this program, while Ultravolt intends to enroll more than 40,000 electricians during the coming one year.
UltraTech Cement ended the day at ₹11,275 on 3rd September, down by 1.04%. The market capitalization of the company stood at ₹3.32 lakh crore.
