Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to build a new 37-acre campus at the Kinfra Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Kochi. This new campus is likely to generate around 10,000 jobs, a report in the Economic Times said citing sources. TCS plans to invest Rs 690 crores on this project that would focus on electronics R&D, as well as IT and ITeS business, the report added.
In addition to the new campus, TCS is scouting for office space at InfoPark in Kochi to accommodate 5,000 employees. The state government is also aiding TCS in finding office space in tech hubs in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kozhikode. Industries Minister P Rajeeve said that investors are being helped in finding space in the districts, the report said.
Recently, the minister met with Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran to discuss TCS’s investments in the state. TCS already has a presence at InfoPark, which is home to other tech companies like IBM, Wipro, and Cognizant.
To accommodate the increasing demand for office space, the government is also expanding Kochi’s Infopark by 500 acres and is in talks to expand the cyberpark in Kozhikode. The government is also taking over the Smart City project in Kakkanad, initially developed in partnership with a Dubai-based company, to use the land for IT companies.
The Smart City project, which aims to create a state-of-the-art IT township, has not progressed as expected. As part of the new plan, the government will buy out the Dubai-based company’s stake in the project. This comes as Kochi continues to attract more tech companies, including IBM, which recently opened its biggest GenAI Innovation Centre in India at Infopark, according to the report.
