Svatantra Microfin, a non-banking financial company that has been promoted by Ananya Birla, has initiated the process of listing its shares publicly. The company has submitted its Red Herring Prospectus to SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) on August 13. The company intends to raise funds worth up to ₹3,000 crore through its initial public offering (IPO).
Svatantra Microfin intends to raise funds worth ₹1,500 crore through the new issue of shares along with an offer for sale (OFS). The OFS will involve sale of shares by the existing investors.
Violicina, which is owned by Advent International, a global private equity firm, intends to sell shares worth ₹1,064.8 crore through the OFS. Multiples Alternate Asset Management, which is headed by Renuka Ramnath, also intends to sell shares worth ₹435.2 crore through the OFS.
Ananya Birla along with her company, Antimatter Media, holds 59.97% stake in Svatantra Microfin. On the other hand, Violicina holds 28.02%, while Multiples Alternate Asset Management holds around 11.45% of stake through three schemes.
Moreover, the company may also mobilize equity funds worth ₹300 crore prior to the IPO via pre-IPO allotment. In that case, the funds mobilized through pre-IPO will be deducted from the fresh issue worth ₹1,500 crore.
Utilization of IPO Money
Svatantra Microfin lends microfinance and affordable housing finance loans through its subsidiary company, Svatantra Micro Housing Finance Corporation.
The company plans to utilize the funds raised from this fresh issue for increasing its Tier-I capital. This will be helpful for the company to satisfy its future financial requirements and offer more loans along with the expansion of its business.
Wide Presence in India
Svatantra Microfin has obtained the NBFC-MFI license from the Reserve Bank of India since 2011. This was the first institution to obtain this license from RBI in accordance with RBI’s latest licensing process at that time.
Till March 2026, the company’s total assets under management (AUM) were ₹23,817.8 crore. The company’s AUM has increased at the compounded annual growth rate of 38.18% during the last three financial years.
The company has extensive presence all over India with 2,253 branches in 23 states/union territories of India. The company operates in around 43.1 lakh borrowers.
Profits Grow by 45.8%
Svatantra Microfin also made some impressive gains in FY26. Its profits grew by 45.8% to ₹649.4 crore from ₹445.4 crore in FY25.
The company’s net interest income also witnessed an increase of 30% to ₹2,496.5 crore from ₹1,920.3 crore last year.
Axis Capital, Avendus Capital, IIFL Capital Services, Kotak Mahindra Capital Company and SBI Capital Markets have been named to handle the IPO.
