In February, OpenAI announced its first text-to-video AI tool, Sora, but only for a small group of researchers. Now, OpenAI is opening Sora to the public, allowing more people to explore its capabilities.
Sora is a powerful AI tool for creating and editing videos by performing various tasks, such as replacing or removing parts of the video, changing elements within them, and even reimagining scenes. Users can also isolate the best frames, extend them, or organize and edit video sequences. Also, Sora can create smooth loops, blend multiple videos together, and apply custom styles to the content.
With Sora, users can create videos up to 1080p resolution for up to 20 seconds. The videos can be created in various formats: widescreen, vertical, or square. According to OpenAI, users can upload their own assets to remix and blend or create entirely new content based on text descriptions.
However, the current version of Sora has certain limitations, which OpenAI has pointed out. The AI sometimes comes up with unrealistic physics or struggles over longer durations when it’s trying to implement complex actions. Still, OpenAI has improved in the newer version of Sora Turbo, which runs much faster than the older versions. The company is still in the process of making the technology affordable for everyone.
Currently, Sora is only accessible to paid subscribers. ChatGPT Plus users can produce up to 50 videos, with a maximum resolution of 720p and 5 seconds in length. In contrast, ChatGPT Pro users can create up to 500 videos with 1080p resolution, 20 seconds in length, and can also run multiple generations simultaneously.
ChatGPT Plus is priced at $20 per month and the ChatGPT Pro comes at $200 per month.
With Sora, OpenAI is making it easy to experiment with video creation and editing by offering an innovative tool that can be used for quite varied creative and professional purposes.
