State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, said in an exchange filing that it has raised ₹4,691 crore through its first Additional Tier 1 (AT1) bond issuance of the current financial year, at a coupon rate of 7.75%.
The Basel III-compliant bonds are perpetual in nature, with a call option exercisable after five years and on each anniversary date thereafter. They carry a rating of AA+ with a stable outlook from both CRISIL Ratings and CARE Ratings.
The issue drew strong investor interest, with bids exceeding twice the base issue size of ₹3,000 crore. A total of 89 bids were received, reflecting participation from a diverse set of qualified institutional investors, including provident funds, pension funds, mutual funds and banks.
Commenting on the response, SBI Chairman C S Setty said the wide and varied participation reflected the confidence investors continue to place in the bank.
Based on the response, the bank has decided to accept the full ₹4,691 crore at the 7.75% coupon rate, payable annually. SBI noted that the issuance marks a step toward diversifying its sources of long-term, non-equity regulatory capital.
