POSCO, one of the world’s largest steelmakers, has implemented Oracle Autonomous Database to streamline data management, accelerate insights, and reduce operational costs. Leveraging Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, the world’s first autonomous database optimized for analytic workloads, POSCO has unified data management across its global operations through an enterprise-wide data lake and data warehouse. As a result, POSCO can now power its smart manufacturing transformation with advanced analytics and automation by running analytics 2.4 times faster with consistent governance.
Recognized as the “World’s Most Competitive Steelmaker” for 15 consecutive years, POSCO produces steel around the globe and processes vast amounts of data daily across multiple business units including sales, marketing, manufacturing divisions and the management support office. To boost operational efficiency, enhance scalability, and enable faster decision-making across its global operations, POSCO needed to integrate its disparate data and analytics systems to establish a cost-efficient, agile IT foundation that could support its digital transformation and smart manufacturing initiative. After careful evaluation, POSCO selected Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse to achieve these goals and lay the groundwork for data-driven innovation by significantly improving security, reducing maintenance, and ensuring consistently high performance of its integrated data lake and data warehouse.
“As part of our AI-driven growth strategy, we are developing an intelligent self-manufacturing system that goes beyond simple automation to enable data-driven decision-making,” said Seokhee Han, Leader, DX Strategy Office, POSCO. “This transformation will help us improve efficiency, product quality, and operational safety across the entire value chain, from ordering and production to sales and marketing. By leveraging Oracle’s proven AI-powered cloud and data management solutions, we expect to accelerate innovation and strengthen our global competitiveness.”
Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse is powered by built-in machine learning that eliminates manual database management through self-tuning, autoscaling, self-patching, and self-encryption. Autonomous management enables POSCO to operate a high-performance, highly available, and secure data warehouse while running thousands of databases with little manual administration. With this low-maintenance foundation in place, POSCO can run advanced analytics faster and more efficiently, scale operations cost-effectively, and enhance enterprise-wide decision-making.
“Navigating significant headwinds in the steel industry, POSCO is leveraging data-driven manufacturing innovation to strengthen future competitiveness,” said Sungha Kim, managing director, Oracle Korea. “Our collaboration with POSCO drives measurable business value through the high performance, scalability, and reliability of Oracle Autonomous Database. We remain committed to helping Korea’s leading organizations accelerate growth and operational efficiency by enabling data-driven transformation.”
