Samsung Electronics is preparing to collaborate with an expanding artificial intelligence (AI) business known as Perplexity AI. The collaboration may introduce fresh AI-based search functionality to Samsung’s smartphones and other products.

Samsung and Perplexity are also in discussions about how they can collaborate. One proposal is to preload Perplexity’s app and AI assistant on Samsung phones in the future. This would mean the app is pre-installed when you purchase the phone. They are also negotiating to incorporate Perplexity’s smart search technology into the Samsung internet browser. Another idea is merging Perplexity’s AI with Samsung’s voice assistant, Bixby.

Samsung is set to unveil this alliance later this year. It aims to make Perplexity an integral component of the Galaxy S26, a device that should launch in early 2026. The plans, though, are not finished yet and can still be modified.

Along with this collaboration, Samsung can also become among the largest investors in Perplexity. The startup company is raising $500 million and can become worth $14 billion soon, as per Bloomberg News. With this deal, if it materializes, this would be the largest deal of Perplexity so far in the smartphone industry. Perplexity has also collaborated with Motorola in the near past.

By partnering with Perplexity, Samsung can be less reliant on Google, which dominates many of Samsung’s services. Apple is doing the same thing — partnering with various AI firms rather than one. For Perplexity, this would be a huge leap forward.

Samsung and Perplexity also discussed creating a new AI-powered operating system and an app that integrates with more than one AI assistant, rather than only one. This would provide users with more choices and improved AI assistance on their devices.

Notably, Apple has also expressed interest in Perplexity. Apple is considering deploying Perplexity in place of Google Search or even replacing ChatGPT in its Siri assistant. During a recent test, an Apple executive stated that they were impressed with Perplexity and had begun negotiations with them. It is yet to be determined how Samsung’s association with Perplexity will influence Apple’s plans.

Thus far, neither Samsung nor Perplexity has made any public statements concerning these talks.

If the acquisition goes through, it might mean more intelligent and quicker AI capabilities on Samsung handsets and a huge leap in Perplexity in the technology sphere.
