An IT professionals’ body has filed a complaint against Infosys in the labour and employment ministry over delay in onboarding of freshers.
“We have filed a formal complaint against Infosys for the ongoing exploitation and unprofessional treatment of over 2,000 young engineering graduates who were selected for system engineer (SE) and digital specialist engineer (DSE) roles during the 2022-23 recruitment drive,” Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) said in a statement.
These graduates, after being issued offer letters as early as April 2022, have been subjected to continuous delays in the onboarding process, unpaid pre-training programmes, and unexpected additional assessments, Saluja alleged.
“We believe that this is not just a breach of trust by one of India’s largest IT companies, but also a significant issue that impacts the future of our country’s IT workforce and economy. We are calling on the government to take immediate and strict action against Infosys to ensure that such exploitative practices are halted and that the rights of these young professionals are protected,” he further said in the statement.
Such cases on delay onboarding of freshers and lateral entrants have also been seen in last years against many other IT majors.
According to NITES, around 10,000 freshers who were offered jobs in the past two years have not yet been boarded by IT companies.
Such delay in onboarding has led to frustrations among candidates, who have also declined many other job offers for joining these marquee companies.
However, things are likely to improve in coming months as management of several IT firms have indicated that they are giving priority in absorbing those candidates first, who have been given offer letters in previous years.
Moreover, companies are again back in campuses for hiring of freshers as they reach peak employee utilisation levels.
