Kaynes Semicon Private Limited, a subsidiary of Kaynes Technology India Limited, has exported 900 Multi-Chip Modules (MCMs) from its Sanand, Gujarat factory to Alpha & Omega Semiconductor (AOS).

This is India’s first commercially produced MCM under the India Semiconductor Mission 1.0, a large government program aimed at developing the country’s chip-making industry.

What Makes This Product Special

The shipped product goes by the name of Intelligent Power Module (IPM5). It is a high-end variety of chip which integrates 17 small components (dies) in one package.

This is what it consists of:

  • 6 IGBTs (for power switching)
  • 2 controller ICs (to control functions)
  • 6 FRDs and 3 diodes (for current flow protection)

This architecture assists in enhancing performance and efficiency, which makes it ideal in machines requiring power management as well as motor control — ranging from industrial machinery to electric vehicles.

Sanand Facility Production Plans

  • The Sanand facility is planned for mass production.
  • It plans to achieve full production capacity of 6.3 million chips per day by January 2026.
  • AOS production is likely to scale up to 1.5 million chips per day by early 2026–27.
  • This addition reveals the rapid way India’s semiconductor production capabilities are increasing.

Strong Global Partnerships

Kaynes Semicon’s success has two strong partners behind it:

  • Alpha & Omega Semiconductor (AOS) – the prime customer, who will absorb a significant majority of the chips manufactured.
  • Mitsui & Co. – offering global logistics and assisting in acquiring key raw materials such as lead frames, wires, and mold compounds.

A Milestone for India’s Chip Industry

This export is not only a company achievement, it’s a national achievement. It proves that India can now design and manufacture cutting-edge semiconductor products domestically, minimizing import reliance and unlocking access to international markets.

Kaynes Semicon CEO Raghu Panicker described it as a moment of pride for India’s semiconductor industry. He said it was an expression of the company’s commitment to innovation, speed, and quality.

Through projects such as this one, India is increasingly heading towards self-sufficiency in the production of semiconductors and a more competitive position in the world’s electronics supply chain.
