Kochi, 25 July 2026

HCLTech has made an extensive investment of Rs 14,257 crore for the construction of its first AI data center at the Odisha Sovereign AI Park. This is one of the largest investments ever in AI infrastructure in India.

HCLTech, in collaboration with an Indian AI startup Sarvam, and the state government of Odisha, will implement this project. The investment amount also includes some financial contribution from the government of the state.

One month prior to the above-mentioned investment news, Sarvam has received $234 million from investors. The round of funding was initiated by HCLTech and Bessemer Venture Partners. After the round, the valuation of the company has reached $1.5 billion. HCLTech invested $150 million in Sarvam becoming the main strategic investor. As a result of the deal, HCLTech became the owner of 10.4% shares of Sarvam.

This data center will be extremely useful for the creation of AI ecosystem in India. By combining the advanced AI infrastructure of HCLTech and the AI models of the Indian company, they will develop AI tools for business sectors, government departments, and public sector organizations of various industrial sectors.

Speaking about the project, HCLTech Chairperson Roshni Nadar Malhotra commented that HCLTech plans to promote India’s vision of making the country independent from any external help when implementing AI solutions.

Along with the announcement of the opening of an AI data centre in India, HCLTech announced the plan to launch a Global Technology Centre in Bhubaneswar. The centre will offer AI-enabled digital services for businesses across the globe. About 5,000 jobs will be created in Odisha as a result of this decision.

The technology centre is supposed to become operational by 2028. This centre will positively influence Odisha’s reputation as one of the country’s significant technology centres.

In general, HCLTech’s investment may be considered an essential step in the development of the country’s AI sector. The creation of the AI data centre and a Global Technology Centre will foster innovation, provide thousands of jobs, help government and business organizations, and make the country independent in creating and implementing AI technology.
