The government has given the green light to four start-ups in the Technical Textiles sector and approved funding for five educational institutions, including NITs, to introduce specialized courses in Technical Textiles. The announcement was made during the 8th Empowered Programme Committee (EPC) meeting, chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles at Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi.
Under the ‘Grant for Research & Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles (GREAT)’ scheme, each of the four approved start-ups will receive approximately INR 50 lakhs. These start-ups will focus on strategic areas such as Composites, Sustainable Textiles, and Smart Textiles.
Additionally, the committee has sanctioned around INR 20 crore to five educational institutions to develop new B.Tech programs in Technical Textiles. These programs will cover various fields and applications, including Geotextiles, Geosynthetics, Composites, and Civil Structures.
