What is ECMS?
Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme is a government program that is implemented with the purpose of boosting the manufacture of electronic components in India. The goal of the initiative is to reduce dependence on imports and encourage domestic manufacturers to produce their products in India.
The initiative involves the local manufacture of key electronic components, sub-assemblies and equipment.
Budget 2026-27 raised the budgetary allocation for ECMS from the Indian government to ₹40,000 crore. It proves that the government pays much attention to electronics manufacturing and private investments into this area.
Over the past 11 years, the electronics output in India has increased rapidly. In addition, many jobs have been created by the electronics industry in the country.
It is now one of the rapidly growing export industries of India. As per the Economic Survey 2025-26, electronics became the third largest exporting category of India in 2024-25.
The target of the government is to develop a $500 billion domestic manufacturing base of electronics for the country by 2030-31. The ECMS will definitely contribute greatly towards achieving this target by assisting firms, increasing the domestic manufacture, and generating employment.
In conclusion, the above approvals indicate that India continues to develop the electronics manufacturing capacity of the country.
