Apple is likely to come up with a slimmer iPhone, which will debut in 2025, reports suggest.
According to The Information, Apple is currently developing the thin version of its most popular product, the iPhone, after releasing its thinnest product, iPad Pro 2024 just a few weeks ago.
This upcoming iPhone is code-named D23, which is likely to be powered by Apple’s next-generation mobile processor dubbed A19.
The report said the new iPhone may have a 6.6-inch screen, an aluminum frame, and an Android smartphone-like modern-looking punch-hole cutout instead of the large dynamic island on the iPhone 15 series.
The Information report citing sources also said that another notable difference on this new iPhone will be that the back camera would be located at the top centre of the phone instead of the top left corner.
This new slimmer model will be powered by new battery technology. This technology will have a much higher energy density, which will enable a smaller battery to be able to pack more power. Thus, overall size of the device will be reduced as compared to previous models.
Apple is facing stiff competition from Samsung in the smartphone space with both companies rushing to come up with new models with improved features.
Data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) shows Samsung had a market share of 20.8% during the January-March period of 2024 and was the top smartphone brand in the world. Apple was in the second position with a 17.3% market share and shipments going down by 9.6%. Samsung’s new AI-infused Galaxy S24 series is giving tough competition to Apple’s iPhone series handsets.
