Amazon.com has announced that starting next year, all employees will be required to work from the office five days a week. This new policy tightens the current rule, which mandates only three days a week in the office.
In a letter to employees, CEO Andy Jassy explained that this change is aimed at improving collaboration and connection. Jassy stated that the trial period under the three-day mandate demonstrated the benefits of more in-office work.
Since the pandemic, many companies have allowed employees to work from home, leaving office spaces mostly empty in cities like San Francisco and Seattle. While some tech companies have started bringing employees back part-time, Amazon is enforcing a stricter policy compared to many of its competitors.
The shift to full-time office work has been controversial. Some employees have expressed dissatisfaction, with reports of individuals being required to relocate or face job consequences for not meeting the previous three-day rule.
Amazon has not yet clarified whether the new policy will include similar strict measures for non-compliance.
