Adani Defence & Aerospace has entered into an agreement with French defence firm, Thales Group to manufacture 70mm rockets in India.
This collaboration is likely to give a boost to the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative, which eyes self-reliance in defence production by cutting down imports.
The 70mm rockets are critical defence assets that are used in multiple missions because of their precise laser guidance, accuracy for targets, and jamming immunity features.
Under this partnership, the rockets produced will be used by the HAL Rudra and Prachand helicopters. The HAL Rudra is a weaponized version of the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter with air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, rockets, and cannons. The HAL Prachand, which is known for its high-altitude warfare capabilities, is also laced with advanced weaponry systems.
As this collaboration will produce 70mm rockets in India, this will ensure a steady and reliable supply, increasing the operational preparedness of the armed forces.
“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with the Adani Group in India. We look forward to collaborate on the manufacturing of Thales’ 70mm rockets in India. This partnership is a key milestone in our continued support of Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision for India’s growing defence industry,” the Thales Group said in a post on X.
“Not only is this partnership significant for our commitment to India, but it also allows us to strengthen our partner network worldwide,” it said.
Recently, Adani Defence & Aerospace entered into an agreement with EDGE Group, one of the leading advanced technology and defence groups in the UAE. This agreement aims to establish a global platform, leveraging the defence and aerospace capabilities of both companies. It will focus on developing R&D facilities in India and the UAE and setting up production and maintenance facilities for defence and aerospace solutions, it has said.
