Indian IT firms have started providing details of their Generative AI engagements with enterprises in their bids to showcase their capabilities. However, Tata Consultancy Services is the only Indian firm that has spelt out the monetary value of its engagements after global IT services & consulting giant Accenture did so in March 2024.
“We have won more than 200 engagements in AI so far this year. The number of engagements going into production is steadily increasing. Our AI and Generative AI pipeline has doubled in the quarter to USD 900 million,” K Krithivasan, CEO & MD of TCS said at the post-results press conference.
In March, Accenture said that it had secured $1.1 billion worth of Gen AI projects in the September-February period. This was the first time when any IT firm globally provided deal value coming from AI and Gen AI technology space.
Barring Accenture and TCS, no other company so far has provided Gen AI engagements in value term. Rather, companies like Infosys, Wipro and some mid-tier firms have highlighted how they are leveraging Gen AI tools.
“The type of work we are doing, for instance, the 3 million lines of codes we have generated through large language models in generative AI is absolutely industry-leading. We are working closely with them (large clients) to make sure their platform works in different environments well, whether it is a hardware tech platform or a large language model platform. So those are elements we feel extremely good about,” Salil Parekh, CEO of Infosys has said after the company’s Q4 results announcement.
Last year, Infosys updated its shareholders about having 50 projects where Gen AI was actively used.
Similarly, Wipro’s new CEO, Srinivas Pallia said that the company has been selected by large clients to leverage Gen AI tools for digital transformation. “A leading global apparel brand chose Wipro as its strategic partner to implement Gen AI solutions for driving their digital transformation,” said Pallia during the analyst call.
All these firms have been aggressively investing in upskilling of their employees in Gen AI space.
