Amazon has announced plans to hire more than 300,000 people for seasonal, part-time and full-time roles across its core operations network in the United States during the holiday season. The company is also expanding healthcare benefits for eligible seasonal employees, with coverage starting from their first day of work from January 1, 2027.
Seasonal employees who work at least 30 hours per week will be eligible for healthcare coverage, with plans starting at $5 per week and $5 copays. Employees hired before January 1, 2027, will gain access to the coverage on that date, while eligible employees hired on or after that date will receive coverage from their first day.
Amazon job salaries and benefits
Amazon said seasonal employees earn an average of $20 per hour, while full-time core operations employees receive a minimum starting wage of $20 per hour. Average hourly pay across its core operations workforce is nearly $24, and average total compensation for full-time employees exceeds $32 per hour when benefits are included.
The company recently announced more than $1.5 billion in higher pay for its US core operations workforce.
Amazon has also introduced additional benefits for employees. These include discounts on eligible groceries and everyday essentials through Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market, as well as the Day 1 Financial programme, which will provide qualified employees and their families access to banking services through First Tech Federal Credit Union.
Other benefits available to eligible employees include a free Prime membership, prepaid tuition through Career Choice of up to $5,250 a year, a 401(k) retirement plan with company matching, paid parental leave and 24/7 mental health support through Resources for Living.
Seasonal jobs can lead to full-time careers
Amazon said seasonal roles offer opportunities to earn money, work flexible schedules and gain experience during its busiest business period. Some seasonal employees also move into long-term positions, including trainer, manager and leadership roles across the company’s operations network.
Through its Career Choice programme, employees can develop new skills, earn degrees or certificates, and prepare for future career opportunities.
