Layoffs in Indian GCCs (Global Capability Centres) continue as reports suggested that Oracle might layoff 3,000 Indian employees as part of its continued restructuring process.
According to a report by the Economic Times, the US-headquartered technology firm has set September 1 as the cut off date for ending the job contract of around 3,000 employees in its Indian centre.
Oracle has been laying off staffers across all its centres including the US despite strong earnings reported by the company in recent quarters. Industry experts link the current round of layoff as Oracle’s increasing investment in the AI infrastructure space.
Earlier, Oracle’s cost optimisation moves had affected close to 12,000 employees in India.
Meanwhile, food delivery startup, Zomato is in the process of eliminating around 250 jobs as it plans to shut down company’s customer support operations in Hyderabad. The company had earlier informed its staffers at a town hall meeting regarding this move.
Interestingly, food delivery platforms have increased platform fees, commission from restaurants and extra charges in recent quarters, leading to increase in food delivery prices. Many complain about the current model of food delivery being out of middle class reach owing to such stiff price hike.
