Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of India’s leading technology firms, is ramping up its AI business in India. According to The Economic Times, TCS has acquired plots of land in Visakhapatnam and Pune that could potentially be used to set up OpenAI’s first data centers in India. However, at this time, there has been no official statement released by either TCS or OpenAI about this.
The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted 200 acres of land to TCS in the Anakapalli district of Visakhapatnam. Anakapalli has emerged as a technology destination, as Google plans to establish a 1-gigawatt hyperscale data center there.
Further, TCS has also acquired an 88 acre plot of land located in the Bopkhel area of Pune for Rs 640.50 crore from Hemisphere Properties, which is a publicly held firm in charge of selling ex-VSNL properties.
These acquisitions have come only days after the establishment of the TCS-Google Gemini Experience Center in Kolkata. The experience center was opened in collaboration with Google Cloud, and utilizes Google’s Gemini AI models.
The Kolkata center is the third Gemini Experience Center that TCS has opened in India, following centers in Chennai and Bengaluru. TCS intends to open 10 Gemini Experience Centers globally by 2026, four of which will be in India. This is TCS’ way of expanding the innovation of AI.
The facility will assist businesses to innovate, prototype, and deploy AI-powered solutions. It will cater to businesses in areas such as retail, consumer packaged goods, travel and tourism, and hospitality. The facility will enable businesses to learn about agentic AI through live demonstrations and collaborations.
As per TCS, this expansion is an indication of how much the company is concentrating on partnering with big cloud technology firms for the faster adoption of AI among businesses.
It was found that the firm has already created over 3,000 AI agents through Gemini Enterprise. These agents are created by taking into account the needs of specific industries and businesses and have been deployed for sectors like retail, consumer products, travel and transport, and hospitality.
New land acquisitions, collaborations with Google Cloud, and the company’s plans connected with OpenAI suggest that the company is developing itself in India’s rapidly growing AI market. The company’s activities demonstrate its investment in AI infrastructure development.
