Marico, a leading player in the FMCG industry, has announced that it will acquire a 60% stake in Cosmix Wellness, a functional wellness brand, for a valuation of ₹375 crore. This acquisition is the latest in Marico’s foray into the health and wellness space. Cosmix, established in 2019, markets plant-based protein powders, fermented yeast protein, superfood mixes, and other functional foods such as protein bars and pancake mixes. Over the past six months, Cosmix has reported an annual run rate of about ₹100 crore, with robust EBITDA margins.
As per the acquisition agreement, Cosmix’s founders, Vibha Harish and Soorya Jagadish, will retain their 40% stake in the company and continue to manage it. Marico also plans to acquire the remaining 40% stake in FY29, the pricing for which will be decided at a later date.
Cosmix currently markets its products through its own website, online marketplaces, and e-commerce sites. Marico believes that this acquisition is part of its plans to develop new brands in the wellness space. Saugata Gupta, the CEO of Marico, stated that he was convinced about the prospects of plant-based nutrition and wellness, and that Cosmix’s innovative offerings had already struck a chord with consumers.
With the capital and distribution network provided by Marico, Cosmix aims to enter new categories in the wellness and nutraceutical space. The founders of Cosmix also welcomed the news of the acquisition and were thrilled about the prospects of Cosmix becoming one of the most trusted and ethical wellness brands in India.
The acquisition of Cosmix is a step in the direction of Marico’s ambition to strengthen its position in the health and wellness segment.
