VinFast, Vietnam’s biggest carmaker, has entered Indian market with launch of two premium electric vehicles.
With this entry, the Indian EV market is likely to see intense competition for market share in the coming days.
Earlier, Tesla has opened showrooms in India in its bid to cater to the rising demand for EVs in the world’s fourth largest economy. Indian market currently sees several EV players including Tata Motors, BYD, Tesla and others.
VinFast has introduced its tailor-made VF6, a compact SUV, priced from Rs 16.4 lakh, and the VF7 mid-sized SUV starting from about Rs 20 lakh.
While Tesla’s Model Y starts around Rs 50 lakh in India, VinFast’s model will cost around one third of Tesla’s model in India. However, the market leader Tata Motors gives the best option in price term to Indian consumers as its starting model starts at Rs 7.99 lakh.
VinFast already has a production unit in India where it can produce 50,000 units in the first phase. The company plans to increase its production capacity in the near future.
