ChatGPT maker OpenAI has announced that it will launch a job search & hiring platform like LinkedIn. According to reports, the Sam Altman-led company’s new platform will be called as OpenAI Jobs Platform. This new job platform will go live sometime next year, the reports noted.
The OpenAI platform wants to utilise the advanced AI capabilities of its GPT models to make it easy for job seekers to find the right job for them. Through this launch, OpenAI wants to simplify and improve the hiring process for both employers and job seekers.
What is the significance of such a new platform?
- LinkedIn has been the dominant job search and hiring platform globally for several decades now. In the professional world, LinkedIn has a near domination, though there are some alternatives available like Indeed, Facebook Groups, Slack, & Reddit among others. With OpenAI’s plan to launch a new job platform, professional hiring platform space is likely to see some real competition after several years.
- Interestingly, Microsoft is a major investor in OpenAI, which owns the LinkedIn platform. Microsoft holds 49% stake in OpenAI. In this perspective, it has to be seen how OpenAI comes up with a job platform, which in many ways will rival LinkedIn.
- AI (artificial intelligence) is making many job roles redundant. The world has seen thousands of layoffs by tech giants like Microsoft, Google, Oracle and many others as AI-led automation replaces human workers. So, it has to be seen how OpenAI’s job platform facilitates hiring in the AI world.
- OpenAI is diversifying into other businesses as it grows. OpenAI has plans to expand its OpenAI Academy platform, that has an objective of skilling in the AI space.
