Tech major, Oracle has initiated another round of layoffs with reports indicating that around 3,000 employees being laid off as part of company’s restructuring moves.
According to industry publication, DataCenter Dynamics, the layoffs were across geographies including the United States, India, the Philippines, Canada, and parts of Europe.
According to the report, this round of layoffs has been extended beyond the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) teams. Earlier layoffs were done in the OCI team during August. The fresh round of layoffs has happened in Oracle Health (formerly Cerner), architects and other corporate divisions, the report noted.
Reports indicated that Oracle had laid off around 10% of its Indian workforce in previous rounds.
Why Oracle is firing employees?
- The tech giant is facing cost pressure after its acquisition of health IT giant Cerner in 2022 for $28.3 billion. The acquired entity was not able to give optimium returns as expected earlier, leading to mounting cost pressures.
- AI adoption is another reason for which many jobs are getting automated. Many analysts see this as one of the reasons for layoffs across the board.
While Oracle is cutting jobs at a frequent basis for saving costs on the back of rising AI adoption, IT professionals are likely to be cautious in joining the company in the future, many HR experts said.
