Odisha will soon hold auction of 22 mines in its bid to push industrial growth in the state, state steel and Mines Minister, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena told reporters here.
However, the nature of mines and what kind of mineral resources these mines bear, was not given by the Minister.
“Once auctioned, these mines will substantially contribute to Odisha’s revenue stream, bolster the industrial sector, and drive job creation across multiple domains,” he told reporters.
“Many mines were not auctioned for the last 2-3 years. Our government auctioned eight mines last year. 22 more will be auctioned soon. The more mines are auctioned, the more revenue will be generated, and employment opportunities will be created,” Jena added.
Last year, Odisha government auctioned eight mines comprising iron ore and manganese in Sundergarh-Keonjhar mining belt.
Odisha is an important mineral resources bearing state in India with huge reserves of iron ore, thermal coal, bauxite, manganese, chrome ore and other minerals.
The state has rapidly industrialised in the last two decades, with a substantial portion steel and aluminum of India being produced in this eastern province.
