For years, coding meant sitting in front of a computer for hours typing many detailed instructions. You learned a programming language, obeyed rules, and corrected errors. It was not fun. But something new called vibe coding is making it that much easier — and it’s receiving much attention these days in our AI-driven world.
So, What Is Vibe Coding?
Vibe coding is a new and simpler method of creating apps, websites, and software. Rather than writing all the code yourself, you simply describe to an AI tool what you want — and it writes the code for you.
For instance, you can say something like:
“I want to create a website that displays a list of my favorite books.”
Then the AI will build the website for you, requiring very little effort from your end.
You don’t have to spend time learning unique coding jargon or debugging errors. You simply state your concept, and the AI works out the details. That’s why they call it “vibe coding” — because you’re following the vibe and letting AI work the heavy lifting.
Who Came Up with This Concept?
The term “vibe coding” was made popular by Andrej Karpathy, who is a well-established AI expert. According to him, rather than typing out each line of code, he now simply explains what he desires to create. The AI compiles the code, and he accepts it without verifying every single detail. This approach is effective very well for quick or minor projects.
How Does Vibe Coding Work?
Here’s how you can vibe code:
- Open an AI platform such as ChatGPT, Cursor, or Replit.
- Tell the app or site what you want it to do.
- The AI codes for you.
- Test it out. If it doesn’t look right, just instruct the AI on what to modify.
- You can even talk rather than type. It’s quick and easy.
Is It the Same as AI Assisting Coders?
Not quite. In AI-powered coding, the individual still does most of the writing. With vibe coding, the AI does most of the writing, and you simply guide it.
Should We Worry?
Some individuals believe vibe coding might cause individuals to forget how to actually code. Others think it’s an excellent idea to enable more individuals to build apps — even if they do not know programming.
Either way, vibe coding shows how AI is changing the way we build technology.
