IT major Infosys hired around 11,900 freshers through campus placement in the last financial year, the company said in its annual report.
This was a drop of more than 70% as compared to the previous fiscal year as the company hired about 50,000 freshers in FY23.
“We recruited nearly 11,900 college graduates in the year and ended the year with over 3,17,000 employees. Our attrition reduced to 12.6%. We trained over 2,50,000 employees on AI skills. Our focus on gender diversity continues with about 39% of our workforce consisting of women employees,” Infosys’ CEO, Salil Parekh said in company annual report for FY24 released on Monday.
After record number of fresher hiring, most IT firms reduced campus placement in significant way last financial year. In FY22, the Indian IT industry hired a record-breaking 600,000 freshers on the back of a surge in demand for digital services seen across the world. In FY23, the hiring number came down but still Indian IT firms hired around 250,000 freshers during this period.
However, fresher hiring came to a halt during FY2024 owing to a tepid demand environment. Large IT firms have indicated that hiring from campuses in the ongoing financial year would depend on the demand environment. India’s largest IT services firm, TCS has started fresher hiring by visiting campuses. The Tata Group company is also conducting its National Qualifier Test for recruitment of freshers from various college campuses.
However, Wipro management has indicated that it would give priority to the onboarding of freshers to whom it has rolled out offer letters earlier. Similarly, Infosys said its hiring model has changed in recent years with half of the candidates getting hired outside of campuses.
