Microsoft’s Copilot is a new artificial intelligence service that can assist with daily tasks such as searching for information, generating text (such as emails and summaries), and even creating images based on simple descriptions. It is like having a virtual assistant who can assist you with all sorts of things.
What Can Copilot Do?
Copilot feels like a chat interface. You can query it, and it will give you a response in text or even create images for you based on what you request. For instance, if you query, “Can you summarize this memo in two sentences?” Copilot will provide you with a quick summary immediately. You can also request that it produce images or code in such languages as C, Python, or JavaScript. It’s driven by sophisticated AI, such as OpenAI’s Dall-E for images and GPT models for text.
How Does Copilot Work?
Copilot is continuing to develop and get better, so it could be different in the future. Microsoft, as of late 2023, integrated its Bing Chat and other capabilities into one service known as Copilot. This AI is now available to run on various platforms like your computer, phone, and even within the web browser, using text or voice commands.
How to Access Copilot?
You can access Copilot on a variety of platforms:
- Web: Go to copilot.microsoft.com and engage with Copilot in your browser.
- Windows: Copilot is integrated into the Windows operating system. You can call it up using a dedicated key or button.
- Mobile: Copilot has Android and iOS apps as well.
- Bing: Copilot is integrated with Bing Search and is able to answer questions right from search results.
Copilot in Microsoft 365
Copilot also comes with Microsoft 365 (previously Office 365). If you’re a paid subscriber, it can assist you in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It can provide responses in writing, summarizing, and even presenting. For companies, Copilot can give you customized responses based on business information.
Copilot for Business
For companies, Microsoft has a special version of Copilot that is able to utilize internal data to assist with activities such as summing up emails or offering insights from documents. This one is available through Microsoft 365 Business subscriptions.
How Much Does Copilot Cost?
There is a web-based, Windows-based, and mobile app-based free version of Copilot for personal use. But if you want quicker results and more capabilities, you can subscribe to Copilot Pro for $20/month. Companies can pay extra to access features that integrate with corporate data.
How Does Copilot Use AI?
Copilot draws on powerful AI models from OpenAI, such as GPT-4 and DALL-E 3. It additionally employs Microsoft’s language processing and cloud tools to provide its answers. The AI is taught by an enormous body of data, but you may manage how your data is managed by tweaking privacy settings.
Privacy and Data Security
As with other AI products, Copilot relies on anonymized information to enhance its answers. But Microsoft gives you the option to disable this feature if you have privacy issues. Companies also enjoy additional safeguards so that their information remains confidential.
Final Thoughts
Microsoft Copilot is a giant leap in artificial intelligence. It has the ability to create text, images, and even code in a jiffy, so it is a very useful tool for personal as well as business use. But because AI is still evolving, mistakes do occur sometimes, and results might not turn out to be perfect every time. Still, Copilot is an excellent assistant that will become even better with improving technology.
