LME Aluminium prices remain relatively stable despite concerns arising from tariffs imposed by the US administration.
Here is a snapshot of prices:
Futures contract (Date) | LME Future Contract Price (3-month) |
June 2,2025 | $2,466/tonne |
June 3, 2025 | $2,463.5/tonne |
June 4, 2025 | $2,483/ tonne |
June 5, 2025 | $2,478/tonne |
June 6, 2025 | $2,450.5/tonne |
- May 6, 2025 – $2,382.5/ tonne
Why aluminium price is relatively stable?
- Chinese production cap of 45 million tonne per annum. China produces 60% of global production.
- This factor indicates global overcapacity is unlikely despite likely fall in demand owing to US tariffs.
- US has increased tariffs on steel and aluminium to 50%. This has pushed up prices in the US market.
- Inventory level doesn’t show much change.
