Nasdaq-listed IT services firm, Cognizant is mulling to set up its largest IT centre of India in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. In a recent meeting with the Odisha Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi; Cognizant’s CEO Ravi Kumar has discussed setting up such centre in the state.
According to an official statement from the Odisha Chief Minister’s Office, Cognizant has evinced its interest and is assured full support from the state administration to facilitate the development of the facility.
The Bhubaneswar campus is set to become Cognizant’s largest centre in India, highlighting company’s strategic focus on expanding its footprint in the country.
Notably, India houses the largest number of employees for Cognizant as the country is the biggest delivery centre for the IT services firm. It has more than 250,000 employees working out of delivery centres in India.
Cognizant already has a presence in Bhubaneswar though its major delivery centres are located in Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad and other cities.
Importantly, Indian and global IT companies are expanding their presence in tier-II cities across the country to reduce the cost of operations. Moreover, employee attrition in small centres is usually low as compared to metro centres.
