Anthropic, an artificial intelligence firm, has struck a gigantic deal with Google to accelerate its computing capabilities and enhance its AI models. The billion-dollar deal will enable Anthropic to capitalize on the increasing demand for its Claude AI models and stand up against other giants like OpenAI.
The agreement involves Anthropic leveraging Google Cloud capabilities and buying as many as one million Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). TPUs are custom chips developed by Google to support complex tasks and are ideal for AI systems. The deal, by 2026, will provide Anthropic with more than a gigawatt of more computing capacity, enabling the firm to cope with the rapidly rising demand for AI services, says Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao.
Anthropic, established in 2021 by OpenAI alumni, is dedicated to creating more secure and dependable AI technology. Anthropic is funded by Amazon and has grown to become a top company in the AI industry shortly after its inception.
Google has also been investing heavily in AI and has put a lot of money to match other giants in the tech industry such as OpenAI, Microsoft, and Amazon. The TPUs that Anthropic will utilize are specifically intended to match Nvidia’s highly sought GPUs, which are also commonly utilized in AI use. Google is still enhancing and growing its TPUs to make them even more powerful.
Earlier, Anthropic released a new version of its Claude AI, which is known as Claude Sonnet 4.5. This model is referred to as the best to be used for computer programming and is also being lauded for its capability to enable AI assistants to work like humans on a computer.
Aside from this, Anthropic is set to establish an office in India next year to access the increasing demand for AI tools in the nation. India will soon be the world’s largest internet market with more than 900 million people expected to be internet users this year.
